All University lecturers and secondary school should understand that we are living amidst what is potentially one of the greatest threats in our lifetime to global education, a gigantic educational crisis.
It is disheartening that lecturers and teachers have stopped their work for over 3 months following the closure of schools by the Federal government in order to curtail the spread of Covid-19.
As worship centres have been opened for 1month, spanning 2nd – 29th June, university lecturers and secondary school teachers are still in anticipation of school reopening.
However, university lecturers and secondary school teachers should take note of the following:
1. As churches have been reopened, schools on the other hand have not yet resumed as Minister of State, Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, again restated the decision of the ministry not to reopen schools, saying the government would not expose its children to the virus.
2. Even as you wait patiently for school resumption, abide by the new curfew imposed on the country as the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19 reviewed the 8 pm to 6 pm curfew imposed on the country to now take place between 10 pm and 4 am.
As university lecturers and secondary school teachers have been at home for over 3 months without salaries, what do you think the Federal government should do for these lecturers and teachers as Covid-19 is on persistent increase and school resumption delayed?
